On May 16th and 17th, I participated in a hackathon at UVU Africa, organized in collaboration with the City of Cape Town. The event featured seven energetic teams, including my team, the “Code Talkers,” who had the privilege of working with a senior developer from the city. Our project, DATACITY, was a gamification platform designed to enhance e-participation and public engagement in Cape Town. Through its interactive features, users could share ideas, feedback, and opinions on urban projects, earn rewards, and track their impact, making civic engagement fun and rewarding.
This hackathon was unique for me as it
emphasized active networking, a first in my experience. Despite initial
intimidation, our team's hard work and dedication earned us second place in the
competition. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovative
thinking, and the practical application of technology in urban development. It
was a memorable learning process that fostered a deep sense of accomplishment
and prepared me for future challenges.
